The 3rd International Automotive Workers Conference was dominated by the awakening of the working class worldwide. The Nepalese delegation said: “This conference is a special moment in the struggle against imperialism.” It was marked by a great sense of seriousness among the participants. The conference was prepared very intensively, enthusiastically, and competently by colleagues from India, especially SEM and TUCIi. The burning desire for international organization and coordination of the working class was clearly expressed. There was great interest in the living and working conditions in the respective countries and how we can abolish the exploitation and oppression of workers.

The conference had a comprehensive program:

In corporate forums, it was agreed that no struggle should stand alone. New corporate spokespersons were elected and strengthened. One from Nepal said, “It is now clear that we can no longer fight separately as workers in factories or countries. But we must coordinate our struggles across borders.”

There was a wide range of thematic forums on workers' and trade union rights, youth, women, health protection, and socialism. In the environmental forum, colleagues from India reported that workers and farmers are closely linked. For many, therefore, the protection of nature is a concern. The women's forum organized a demonstration through the building. In the youth forum, it was reported that in India, many young people without education see only two alternatives: joining the military or becoming farmers in their home country. In the socialism forum, it was emphasized that we must fight together, despite our differences, and that there is only one genuine scientific socialism.

Many conference participants demonstrated in downtown Pune together with many workers who joined after their shift. A speaker from the US said: “We will not end our solidarity rally between the International Coordination of Automotive Workers Conference, the Indian people, and the Indian working class without expressing our resolute solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

The delegates met: We agreed on a joint resolution on the international struggle. We elected ten members to the International Coordination Group (ICOG) from a total of six countries.

The crisis of imperialism is exacerbating contradictions worldwide. War and misery will intensify dramatically.

Let us prepare for tough struggles. Let us set a course for a new level of international cooperation and solidarity, for worldwide joint struggles and strikes.

A worker from Skoda/VW in Pune called for this: “We must think about how to organize all workers, especially contractual workers.” They make up a growing proportion of the workforce and are particularly affected by lawlessness and layoffs. To this end, it is necessary to closely link economic and political demands. The South African delegation made it clear: “There is a wave of fascism and racism worldwide.” The working class must take a stand on this and assume its leading role. A delegate from South Africa called for closer cooperation with the United Front. This needs to be discussed further. An important step is solidarity with Gaza, on which a separate resolution was adopted by the closing plenary.

The conference takes a clear stand against anti-communism. A colleague from India reported that workers must deal with anti-communism. And it is important to raise their consciousness. A delegate from South Africa said it is important to make workers aware of what we are fighting against, but also what we are fighting for—socialism.

We had important discussions on the question of “social transformation.” Reforms are necessary to improve the situation of workers worldwide. Impoverishment is increasing. Every right is hard-won. At the same time, we must not have any illusions that governments or capitalists will take care of us. The Indian government is responding to the awakening working class by tightening labor laws. SEM and TUCI are protesting against the Modi government's new labor laws. Other unions are organizing a major day of protest for November 26. The Automotive Workers Conference declares its solidarity with the protest in India.

During a cultural evening program, workers from all over the world got to know each other better and fraternized. An integral part of the conference is its self-organization, from translation to fundraising.

The conference protests against various restrictions. Bureaucratic and repressive visa regulations hindered participation from around the world. In four cases, visas were also denied, partly for anti-communist reasonsii. The increasing surveillance and suppression of the labor and trade union movement was clearly noticeable in India.

Let's start working on our resolutions right away! After the 3rd International Automotive Workers' Conference comes the 4th International Automotive Workers' Conference!

We are expanding mutual exchange worldwide!

Let us organize the international working class!

Automotive workers stand up against exploitation, right-ward developments and fascism, the threat of war and environmental destruction!

No struggle should stand alone anymore!
