International Newsletter GM-Stellantis No. 26 – September 2025

From the Stellantis/GM Group Coordination in the IAC: Dear colleagues The third International Automobile Workers Conference (IAC) from November 20 to 24, 2025, in Pune, India, is just around the corner! This conference comes at just the right time, when we automobile workers are challenged by attacks from corporations and inundated with nationalist, racist, and fascist demagoguery.

Around the world, armament is increasing as never before, our societies are being geared towards war and contaminated with a militaristic spirit, while the ruling classes worldwide are increasingly relying on fascist forces to achieve their goals. This goes hand in hand with a dismantling of democratic rights and freedoms and of hard-won measures against global environmental catastrophe. A prime example of this is the USA under the fascist Trump. Many other governments, especially in Europe, are submitting to this, while others, such as China, Brazil, and India, are pursuing their own interests more vigorously and are in some cases being hit with punitive tariffs. Corporations such as Tesla, Amazon, and CATL (a leading Chinese battery company) are pushing ahead with the fascistization of their management practices worldwide, ignoring laws to protect workers and firing militant colleagues. It is a priority task of the international working class to take the lead in the anti-fascist struggle.

Many of the leading car manufacturers are losing ground internationally, partly because they have long refused to switch to electric drives. Now the Audi plant in Brussels, Belgium, and the Stellantis plant in Luton, UK, have been closed, and Ford in Saarlouis, Germany, is facing complete closure. However, international resistance to this is growing. The Volkswagen workforce in the US has fought for and won the recognition of its union. But too often, the struggles are still fragmented, with workforces left to fend for themselves and pitted against each other.

Our concept of international solidarity, the international unity of struggle of the workers, our common struggle for a liberated society, is the best antidote to this reactionary and fascist tendency. That is why the 3rd IAC will discuss further improvements in real cooperation under the motto: “No struggle should stand alone!”

However, the IAC is not only an alliance for defensive struggles; we also confidently claim a leading role in the struggle for the future of humanity: for the salvation of humanity's foundations of life from environmental catastrophe and the threat of nuclear war, for a liberated society! For this, we need a worldwide united front. We will be able to discuss all these issues thoroughly in Pune, but we will also celebrate together and get to know each other better, thus strengthening the basis of trust among us.

Automotive workers and their friends from Italy, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, the USA, and, of course, India have already registered, including some from GM plants. It is high time to register for the conference at registration@iawc.info.

Participants in the various countries should agree on the composition of their delegations and prepare country reports together. Further information about the conference program, travel, accommodation, and visas can be found at www.automotiveworkers.org.

With solidarity greetings,
