September 7, 2024: IAC & Friends Düsseldorf Germany: To the militant movement in Serbia Dear friends! We are automobile workers at Mercedes-Benz in Düsseldorf, their families and friends. We are in solidarity with your resistance against the destruction of nature in the fertile Jadar Valley for the profit interests of Rio Tinto and Mercedes. Two years ago you already prevented lithium mining. Now the heads of the Mercedes Group, the EU and the German government have directly intervened to enforce this environmental crime.
The switch to electromobility is to be carried out on the backs of workers and nature. For Mercedes boss Källenius, the only thing that counts is maximum profit. This fall, 1,200 temporary workers will be laid off at the Düsseldorf plant. And in order to become less dependent on China, he wants to overexploit natural resources in Serbia and ruin a fertile agricultural and nature conservation area.
Playing off environmental protection and jobs against each other is intended to divide us. We will not allow this! We must and will fight against these machinations together across borders. Your protests will help us to expose the lies of “environmentally friendly lithium mining” and the “raw materials partnership”.
