Successful 2nd meeting of International Coordinating Group - Let's go ahead to 2nd International Automotive Workers Conference!

January 4, 2019 - Dear colleagues! From 5 to 7 December 2018 the International Coordinating Group of International Automotive Workers Coordination (ICOG) organized a successful 2nd meeting in the midst of turbulent times in Gelsenkirchen (Germany).

The automotive and suppliers industry is facing great upheaval by the beginning of the transition to electromobility, further concentration with mergers or alliances and digitisation. The announcements of VW, GM and Ford of deletion of tens of thousands of jobs, mass dismissals, outsourcing and closures of plants are just the beginning. In this situation international alliance and our coordinated cross-company and transnational struggle against the attacks of the automotive corporations is our trump card.

For this reason ICOG has set the course with decisions for the 2nd international Automotive Workers Conference (IAC) in February 2020 in South Africa: against the division of workers according to locations, corporations and countries, at the 2nd IAC we must decide an international fighting program of the automotive workers. ICOG will publish a draft for further discussion within 1st of June 2019. Concerning the aims and the exact course of the 2nd IAC, an information letter will be published in February also with regard to the tasks in the national processes of preparation and conduction in South Africa.

ICOG has also decided about a sticker series ”30 hour workweek with full wage compensation” in several languages! A call to the 2nd IAC, an advertising flyer and poster will be published before Mayday 2019.

ICOG is giving information about the call of the coordinating speakers of GM-Opel workers’ collaboration on a day of action of GM-Opel-workers against the announced closures of plants. We call upon the militant automotive workers movement to take the initiative in all corporations and campaign for support of our trade unions, and are forwarding you the call for solidarity of unions SINTRAIME and SINTRAGMCOL at GM Bogota/Columbia.

Get involved! Become a supporter of the International Automotive Workers Coordination!

Support the preparation and conduction of the 2nd conference in South Africa!

We are wishing all of you a successful and militant year 2019!
